We are all in agreement, that she was the world's best dog. But she was 13, and we knew that we had to say goodbye at some point.
The last couple of days, it has been very difficult to get her up and out of the house to go to the bathroom, so today mom and dad took her to the vet. She just didn't want to move. After x-rays, the vet determined that it was likely that Zoe had a tumor on her spleen, and if it wasn't already--it would soon lead to internal bleeding. Also, her iron count was at 18% (and it is supposed to be at 40%) which led them to believe that she probably already was bleeding internally.
So the decision was made to put her to sleep tonight. So with 5 Libby's (since Alex was unable to be here) and Laura Hall, gathered around her, we watched her fall asleep. It was very quick and painless for her, and she couldn't have been any happier than to have her family gathered around her.
She will be cremated, so that we can bring her ashes out to Matinicus--her favorite place on earth.
I don't believe that any dog will ever top her.

Oh, sweetheart, I'm so sorry. Things like that can be so amazingly hard. It was good that you were all able to be there. My thoughts are with you all. :(
Kate,
I'm so sorry to hear about Zoe. She was a beautiful dog, it sounds like you all gave her a great home and many happy years. Praying peace and comfort for you all~
