One last post...

Okay, one more post--after watching the inauguration.

It was pretty powerful watching him get sworn in and then give his first speech. No question. I think it is always pretty powerful, but this time a little moreso. Not because I think he's going to be better than any president we've had previously...I'm not sure he'll be any better, or any worse. The job is what it is.

But he said it himself in his speech. How a "man whose father 60 years ago wouldn't have been served at a restaurant, would now be able to take this oath" So true. That is so true. It is proof to how far we've come as a nation. And it is exciting. And it is good, and right.

But my worry still remains. I think people are placing way too much hope in him, way too much faith that he can change things overnight, or at all. And what really irks me about it, is that he has build a lot of this hype up on himself. His entire campaign was run on the fact that he would be able to change the world. Well, Mister President. I sure hope you can live up to what you promised. I have my doubts, but prove me wrong.

I think he has a fairly realistic sense of the work ahead of him, but I also think he is overly ambitious. Probably a combination of his young age, and his personality. And I wouldn't be surprised if the reality of the office hits him harder and sooner than he expects.

I see this as going in one of two directions. When trials come, wars, economic disaster, terrorist attacks, etc--when that all continues to rain down on us (because it will) people will have one of two reactions to not a lot of change taking place. Either, they'll say that Bush made such a mess of things that Obama was unable to fix it. Or they're going to come to the realization that he is just a man, who can only do what he can do. I'm hoping it is the latter. Don't misunderstand--I'm not hoping Obama is going to fail. It's just that the high expectations being placed on him are so incredibly high, that I don't believe he is going to be able to live up to them. I don't think any President could, no matter who he was. Not even Bill Clinton. But if the Clinton Presidency is any hint of what is to come, I have a feeling Obama will be able to do no wrong. Because Clinton was able to do no wrong--even after being impeached.

It's a sign of the times folks. I hope you're paying attention to all of this. (Not to me, but to what is going on around us)

I love what (now) Former President Bush said about this whole situation. He has said that he thinks history will prove him right. And I agree with that. Even if history doesn't prove him right, I still believe he was right in the decisions that he made.

And it amazes me that with everything that is going on in our country...that people can look at The President, and say that he is the cause of all of our own overspending, egotistical, selfish habits. Amazing right? How is the greediness of the top dogs on Wall Street the fault of the current sitting President? How is the fact that the car industry is sucking more money out of this country, than pouring into it the fault of the current President? How is the fact that more than 86% of Americans are in debt over their heads, the fault of the current President? But the media loves to swing things in the direction they want people to think. The media wants us to think that we're making decisions for ourselves, when really they're telling us what to think. We have all the freedom in the world to do, think, & believe what we want. And yet, we allow what is right in front of our faces to sway our beliefs. Amazing isn't it? Anyway--I think we have earned what we have coming to us. I really do. And I don't mean that in an bad, "I hope we crash and burn" sort of way. Of course I don't want us to crash and burn. But if we as Americans continue on this "one man to save us all" frame of mind--we are going to. Because people never place the blame on themselves, it is always on the easiest person to blame. And who better, than a God-fearing, right wing, Republican President.

Those are just my 2 cents--and I mean no one any offense. Those are just the things I've been keeping to myself the past few months.
