Rounds 3, 4 and 5.....and the perfect match

So, the search for the perfect house color continued over the weekend...Let me tell you, I'm sick of painting swatches on the side of the house, but I know it's important for us to find a color that we love.

If you recall, I posted before about our friend Randy and Casey's house, whose color we love. So Randy gave us what he had left of his paint...which had no markings on it to indicate the color. But at least we had the color! So round 3...we painted a swatch on the side of the house near a window from Randy's can (so we could start thinking about trim color too)

We took Randy's paint to Sherwin Williams (where the paint was from, and where our builder plans to get our paint) thinking that they'd be able to match it easily. It must exist right? Wrong! It no longer exists! The guy matched it to what he thought it was....

Round 4, we came back to the house, and painted around the original swatch to see if it matched. As you can clearly see, it doesn't. The original swatch is on the 2nd and 3rd boards from the bottom. Boards 1, 4 and 5 are the unmatched color.

So, we went back to Sherwin Williams and told them that it wasn't right. So the guy told us he'd call us in like an hour after he worked on a match. He called us, showed us his swatches on cards in the store, to us it looked as though it matched.

Round 5, we painted a 'bump' out on the 3rd board to see if it matched. PERFECT!

While in the store, we actually had the opportunity to name the color, since it no longer exists. I had no idea what to name it, they were just going to call it 'exterior green' and then the guy who matched it pipes up and said "how about 'John's Perfect Match'!" I thought that was an amazing name, so that's what the paint got named.

Then on to trim colors. Ugh. We wanted this to be simple, neutral, and unassuming. Something that will match any color stone since we're still unsure what we'll end up with for stone. Soooo.....

Meanwhile, progress on the rest of the house is going along nicely. That 2x4 is crooked because we'd moved it so Tres could get up into the house. They're working on building him a better ramp.

Also, people are still coming by and writing on our studs when we're not there. We love it. We ended up hanging up a bag of markers (now that the roof is on) with a note telling people that they can write on the studs. So it's cool to show up and see new notes and scriptures!
